SMOOSHING
J's Designs - Faux Smooshing

Smooshing is a very dramatic technique.

RECIPE

Step One: Apply two coats of Pratt and Lambert Accolade Satin Finish tinted to #2257 Shadow Beige. Let paint dry for several hours.

Step Two: There are two types of glazes that can be used to do this technique; oil glaze and latex glaze.

Oil glaze: Pratt and Lambert Oil Glaze mixed to #2258 Kodiak Grey and #2255 Downy Gray.

Latex Glaze: Mix your glazes in the ratio of 5 parts Polyvine Scumble: 1 part Accolade Velvet mixed to #2258 Kodiak Grey and #2255 Downy Gray.

Step Three: Cut thin plastic (drop sheets) to the dimensions of the walls you are smooshing, adding two feet to the height and width of your walls.

Step Four: Start in a corner and roll the glaze onto the wall with a 5mm or 10mm lint free roller sleeve. Roll as close to the ceiling and trim as you can. With a stippling brush, or hogs hair softener, stipple up to the ceiling and trim. Hint: Avoid linear roller marks by rolling it randomly over the entire surface.

Step Five: Starting in one corner, take your sheet of plastic, and press it into the wall, then chase the bubbles. You can see the pattern you are creating through the plastic. (Be careful not to leave imprints of the palm or your hand.) When you are satisfied remove the plastic.

Step Six: While the glaze is still wet, you may want to press small pieces of plastic into the wall to detail any area that needs it.
