FROTTAGE
J's Designs - Faux Frottage

Frottage is a quick way to give smooth walls the illusion of naturally aged plaster walls.

RECIPE

Step One: Apply two coats of Pratt and Lambert Accolade Satin finish tinted to #1098 Wafted Feather. Let paint dry for several hours.

Step Two: There are two types of glazes that can be used to do this technique; oil glaze and latex glaze.

Oil glaze: Pratt and Lambert Oil Glaze mixed to #2257 Shadow Beige and #2304 Rubidoux.

Latex Glaze: Mix your glazes in the ratio of 5 parts Polyvine Scumble: 1 part Accolade Velvet mixed to #2257 Shadow Beige and #2304 Rubidoux.

Step Three: Cut Kraft paper or lighter to length of the height of the wall, adding two feet. Cut enough strips to cover all the surfaces once.

Step Four: Start in a corner and roll the glaze onto the wall with a 10mm lint free roller sleeve. Roll as close to the ceiling and trim as you can. With a stippling brush, stipple up to the ceiling and trim.

Step Five: Press the paper into the wet glaze. Have one person hold the paper in place while the other rubs the paper into the surface. (Be careful not to leave imprints of the palm or your hand.) Remove the paper.

Step Six: While the glaze is still wet, you may want to press small pieces of paper into the glaze to detail any area that needs it.

Step Seven: Roll next section of glaze and repeat.

Step Eight: When first glaze is dry, repeat process with second glaze color.
